About The Position

The Fiber Designer position at Wade Trim involves improving infrastructure in the Midwest by designing fiber optic systems. The role requires a candidate with 2 to 5 years of experience in design work, particularly in OSP design, and proficiency in GIS platforms and CAD software. The Fiber Designer will work collaboratively within the ICE team to execute and coordinate design projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables and maintaining excellent client relations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • 2 to 5 years of related work experience is required.
  • 1+ years' experience in OSP design (preferably in ArcGIS Pro, QGIS or other GIS based platforms) is required.
  • Ability to design FTTx systems in aerial and underground environments is required.
  • Experience assigning fiber counts to homes and determining splice locations is required.
  • Ability to interpret GIS design and draft a cohesive construction drawing in AutoCAD, Civil 3D or Maps 3D is required.
  • Experience researching and implementing city utilities/structures into base maps for construction drawings while adhering to jurisdictional standards is required.
  • Experience interpreting field notes and utilizing them for the design is required.
  • Knowledge of jurisdictional permits, and specialty permits such as railroad, DOT and bridge crossings or attachments is required.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Python or similar coding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret, analyze, organize, execute, and coordinate new design projects and revisions to existing projects.
  • Apply engineering principles and procedures while performing engineering design work.
  • Perform design calculations as needed.
  • Provide design details as needed.
  • Seek resolutions on non-standard analytical problems.
  • Create estimated time requirements for projects.
  • Attend project-specific meetings to determine CAD schedules.
  • Save project-specific data on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Verify field survey notes.
  • Assist Project Managers as needed.
  • Attend meetings as needed.
  • Maintain excellent client relations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
