Requirements

  • Safety-focused with a hands-on approach and a proven track record of high-quality work.
  • 3-5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience, with at least 2 years of coax splicing on mainline/trunkline projects.
  • Experience with provision and turn-up on optical nodes preferred.
  • Skilled in using splicing and testing equipment, including OTDR, fusion splicer, and power/light meters.
  • Able to read and interpret designs, blueprints, splicing schematics, and complete daily paperwork (as-built drawings).
  • Comfortable working on, driving, and operating a bucket truck; experience working at heights and climbing with gaffs preferred or willing to learn.
  • Flexible, team-oriented, and willing to work overtime as needed, including on-call on a rotating schedule.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean record; CDL preferred.
  • Problem-solver who enjoys hands-on challenges and working collaboratively with the team.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain end-to-end fiber optic and coaxial networks.
  • Work on the pre-installation/construction side of telecom projects.
  • Splice and test larger fiber counts off the mainline (commonly 48-288+), including single fiber, ribbon, and loose tube.
  • Work with both coax trunk lines (500+ counts) and feeder lines; conduct aerial and underground (UGE) splicing as required.
  • Operate fusion splicers and standard testing equipment, including OTDR (1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM), OLTS, Max Tester, and power meters, troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Prep and install fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, Commscope, Corning, etc.) to ensure high-quality connections.
  • Apply fiber engineering knowledge to interpret designs, documentation, light levels, and dB loss.
  • Work in outdoor utility construction environments, often in varying weather conditions.
  • Support the crew and follow leadership direction to ensure safe and successful project completion.
