The Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Coordinator in the Perinatal Department at UChicago Medicine is responsible for conducting outreach and interviews with families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. This role involves collaboration with healthcare providers, data management, and community engagement to enhance the understanding and prevention of fetal and infant mortality.

  • Identify, contact, and interview mothers and family members who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss.
  • Conduct outreach to maternal childcare providers and referred study participants.
  • Retrieve medical records from hospitals for specified cases and review them.
  • Complete appropriate abstraction forms and prepare case summaries based on clinical interpretation of records.
  • Facilitate case review group meetings and maintain links with contract agencies and local providers.
  • Assist in disseminating program results to the community and participate in community events.
  • Lead FIMR study presentations and support community initiatives related to FIMR.
  • Promote and establish partnerships with referral sources for potential study participants.
  • Confirm referrals meet study requirements and secure interviews with families.
  • Facilitate learning moments with families during follow-ups.
  • Complete case data entry within a protected database and present cases at Case Review Team meetings.
  • Experience in home visiting, community outreach, case finding, or conducting interviews.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Social Work (MSW), or Master of Public Health (MPH).
  • Clinical background in obstetrics, pediatrics, neonatology, or perinatology.
  • Excellent communication skills and sensitivity to the needs of grieving families.
  • Ability to work independently with a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
  • MSW or MPH with medical record abstraction experience or certificate.
