This is an extended posting through February 18, 2026, for Ferry Crew Member II positions within the Ferry Division. Multiple Ferry Crew Member II positions will be filled from this posting. Ferry Crew Member II - Summary of Duties: Directs vehicle parking on deck to ensure proper weight distribution; chocks wheels to prevent movement while underway. Patrols deck to maintain order, enforce safety rules, and restrict access to hazardous areas. Investigates loading/unloading accidents and assists the captain in preparing incident reports. Observes and reports suspicious passenger behavior per Homeland Security guidelines. Supervises rescue boat operations and deckhands. Inspects deck machinery and fixtures for proper function and assists engineer with routine maintenance and repairs. Steers the vessel through the prescribed course under the supervision of the ferry captain. Assists crew in securing vessels during emergencies or adverse weather. Aids maintenance crews during dry dock repairs. Performs other related duties as assigned. These positions work shift work - 7 days on and 7 days off. Dormitory housing may be available at some locations during the working shift. A COPY OF TWIC AND VALID USCG MERCHANT MARINERS CREDENTIAL INCLUDING MEDICAL CERTIFICATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT THE INTERVIEW PROCESS.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Able Seaman Certificate issued by the US Coast Guard.
  • Possession of a Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of "navigational rules of the road" including navigation lights and signals.
  • Skills in directing emergency response teams and mustering passengers and disembarking them to rescue craft safely.
  • Skills to load and unload a ferry vessel with regard to the vessel's stability.
  • Experience in launching and recovering a rescue boat.
  • Demonstrated ability without assistance to pull an un-charged 1.5-inch diameter 50' fire hose to full extension and to lift a charged 1.5-inch diameter fire hose to firefighting position.
