Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Q Clearence Required
  • D. degree and about 10 years' experience
  • MS degree and 12 years' experience
  • BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience.
  • Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3, DOE O 420.1, DOE STDs 3009, 1186, 1189 and related directives and standards is required.
  • Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in developing and providing safety basis inputs to facility/project schedules, while meeting deadlines and budgets. (Required)
  • Candidate must perform work safely and be proficient in performing Nuclear Safety Program assessments. (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Fifteen years of relevant experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining safety basis documents and safety basis support documents is preferred.
  • Demonstrated previous SRS nuclear safety engineering experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
  • Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
  • Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.
  • Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers.
  • Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
  • Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems.
  • Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
  • Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
  • Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.
  • Prepare reports for external publication.
  • Considered an internal expert in area of expertise.
  • Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations.
  • Can solve complex problems in field.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site.
  • Provide technical assistance in developing and reviewing nuclear safety documents and analyses, technical safety requirements, and related technical support documentation.
  • Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, applicable controls are implemented in field procedures.
  • Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals.
