About The Position

SPCA Westchester is looking to add a passionate and dedicated Feline Animal Care Specialist to our team! Summary: Join our talented Animal Care Specialist team and help provide daily care, comfort, and enrichment mainly to cats while supporting them on their journey to a forever home. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role focused on animal welfare, cleanliness, and positive adoption experiences. We’re looking for someone with a genuine love of cats and a special affinity for understanding feline behavior and needs. While primarily working with cats, team members may assist with dog care (as needed). The Animal Care Specialists are responsible for the day-to-day care of all animals in our Rescue Center. This includes feeding, bathing, and providing enrichment that betters the life of the animals. The ACS position involves continuous cleaning to prevent contamination, illness and stress. This is a hands-on position that requires physical strength and constant mobility. The Animal Care Specialists also help to facilitate adoptions through counseling sessions with families and individuals. Qualified candidates must have excellent communication skills and be able to provide customers with a positive adoption experience.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and comfortable speaking with members of team, volunteers and potential adopters.
  • Understanding of feline behavior/body language preferred
  • Comfortable working with both cats and dogs
  • Able to lift 50 lbs+ and stay active/on your feet throughout shifts
  • Able to perform repetitive physical tasks (cleaning, lifting, bending)
  • Reliable transportation (including in inclement weather)
  • Animal care or shelter experience a plus
  • Basic computer skills
  • Be comfortable with exposure to zoonotic diseases, loud noises, and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cats for health, behavior, and signs of stress or illness
  • Feed, water, and maintain clean litter boxes
  • Provide enrichment, socialization, and safe handling for cats of all temperaments
  • Clean and disinfect cages, rooms, and common areas throughout the day
  • Support adoptions by assisting with matchmaking and educating adopters
  • Keep animal care areas stocked, organized, and running smoothly
  • Help with intake and ongoing monitoring of cats
  • Assist with dog care when needed (feeding, cleaning, basic handling)
  • Daily stocking of supplies and maintaining animal rooms in an organized manner.
  • Wash, dry, and store laundry and dishes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
