About The Position

Cactus Feeders is an Amarillo, Texas based cattle company. Originally founded by the Engler Family in 1975, Cactus is now 100% Employee Owned, producing a million head of fed cattle annually. The Company has locations throughout the Texas Panhandle, Southwest Kansas, and Eastern Colorado. A feedmill operator is responsible for running feedmill equipment to batch feed rations for the cattle. Job responsibilities include working with boilers, steamers, and flakers to produce the feed and observing and inspecting machinery to ensure that all equipment runs effectively to reduce any setbacks in production. Location: Southwest Feedyard in Hereford, Texas

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred, but not required)
• Mechanical knowledge and working knowledge of feedmill systems is a plus
• General Understanding of boilers and electrical systems is a plus
• 1-2 years’ experience operating heavy equipment
• Team Player with effective communication to team members and Feedmill Manager

Responsibilities

• Feedmill Operations & Equipment Monitor feed quality and consistency to ensure rations meet specifications
• Operate, adjust, and troubleshoot feedmill equipment including mixers, conveyors, augers, boilers, steamers, and flakers
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and report mechanical issues promptly
• Assist with receiving, unloading, and proper storage of feed ingredients
• Record production data, ingredient usage, and equipment performance as required
• Safety, Compliance & Cleanliness Follow all feed safety protocols
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment to reduce fire and safety risks
• Participate in safety meetings, training, and required certifications
• Teamwork & Communication Communicate effectively with feed truck drivers and management to ensure timely feed delivery
• Work collaboratively with feedmill and yard crews to meet daily production goals
• Report feed shortages, equipment issues, or operational concerns to supervisors
• Other duties as assigned
