About The Position

The Feed Mill Superintendent is primarily responsible for supervising employees through direct report supervisors who manage the day-to-day operations in the feed mill. This role ensures that employee training is completed, feed is scheduled and available when needed, supplies and ingredients are available, conducts housekeeping audits, and ensures that scheduling of preventive maintenance is complete. The superintendent is also responsible for compliance with all company policies, FSMA regulations, and local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations, as well as reviewing daily production activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years' progressive feed manufacturing experience.
  • 1 year relevant supervisory experience within a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of feed manufacturing equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of food and feed industry regulatory requirements.
  • Poultry science knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and motivate people.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of math functions and skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial terms and reporting.
  • Practical computer skills with solid knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Ability to manage purchases and inventory.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Poultry, Animal or Feed Science, Biology or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Finance, Accounting, Business or related coursework from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years' progressive feed manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in automated feed processing and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Select, supervise and train employees ensuring career progression.
  • Provide safety training.
  • Schedule feed mill activities, including feed manufacturing and shipments.
  • Monitor receiving and production activities to meet GMPs.
  • Ensure timely receipt of raw materials.
  • Coordinate feed production output and quality.
  • Review daily production reports.
  • Perform regular housekeeping audits.
  • Order ingredients and supplies.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance and document maintenance activities.
  • Operate and repair manufacturing equipment.
  • Comply with all company, FSMA regulations, and local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Perform all activities required to complete the daily feed mill checklist.
  • Build and maintain effective employee and grower relationships.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and information regarding feed mill equipment, operations, and environmental issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
