About The Position

The Peer Recovery Coach provides support, guidance, and encouragement to individuals recovering from substance use or mental health challenges. The student will assist others in navigating recovery resources, supports clients in setting personal goals, and help them develop effective coping strategies. Interns will be placed at the House of Ruth facility in Connersville, Indiana for on-site work at the direction of the organization’s Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an Ivy Tech Community College student.
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study funding.
  • Completed FAFSA on file demonstrating financial need.
  • Maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours of enrollment in eligible courses
  • Maintain an aid-eligible Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - compassion and strong relationship-building ability with regard to others and representatives of partner organizations alike.
  • A positive and proactive attitude
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High levels of empathy and compassion.
  • A commitment to helping others achieve well-being and sustained recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating group and individual recovery sessions.
  • Offering emotional support on an ongoing basis.
  • Assisting clients with access to community services and resources.
  • Promoting a recovery-oriented, supportive environment.
