About The Position

A Federal Work Study award does not guarantee a job is available. The Fikrig Lab studies mosquito biology and ecology through field and laboratory research. We are seeking a motivated Work Study Laboratory Assistant to support day-to-day lab operations, organization, and data management. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a research environment while applying and strengthening your organizational skills. Additional opportunities: Students with an interest in entomology or biology may have the chance to participate in research activities beyond the core responsibilities listed above (with expanded hours). Federal Work Study job performance is evaluated either annually or through ongoing mentorship. Students who received a Federal Work Study award have the opportunity to obtain a job and perform related duties either on campus, or remotely, if possible and at the discretion of the employer. - Interest in laboratory work (no prior experience required)
- Bonus: Proficiency in Spanish-some data may be in Spanish from fieldwork in Peru (helpful but not required)
Responsibilities
- Organizing and labeling laboratory materials and supplies
- Cleaning laboratory surfaces, glassware, and equipment used in mosquito rearing
- Removing outdated materials and supplies from the former lab space (the Fikrig Lab is newly established)
- Performing basic data entry tasks
- Assisting with mosquito colony maintenance
- Supporting other lab-related tasks as needed
