Are you a passionate advocate for justice with a keen interest in complex criminal cases? Price Benowitz, LLP, is seeking a Criminal Defense Associate to join our dynamic legal team. In this role, you will work on a combination of federal and state criminal matters, including high-stakes federal cases as well as significant state-level criminal defense work. This position is ideal for a driven and detail-oriented attorney looking to build a rewarding career while making a real difference in clients’ lives. Based in our Washington, D.C., office, this role offers a unique blend of mentorship, collaboration, and hands-on experience across both federal and state criminal defense litigation.

Requirements

  • A Legal Trailblazer: You hold a JD and are an active member in good standing with the D.C. Bar (or eligible to waive in).
  • Experienced Advocate: With 2+ years of criminal defense experience, including federal matters or significant exposure to federal practice, you’re ready to take on complex cases.
  • Skilled Communicator: Your research, writing, and oral advocacy skills are second to none.
  • Client-Centered: You’re passionate about protecting clients’ rights and delivering empathetic, ethical representation.
  • Detail-Oriented Professional: Managing deadlines and juggling cases with efficiency comes naturally to you.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with both federal and state criminal litigation.
  • Expertise in federal sentencing guidelines.
  • Experience with high-stakes cases involving white-collar crime, drug trafficking, conspiracy, or public corruption.
  • Proficiency with cutting-edge legal research tools and case management software.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the rights of clients in both federal and state criminal matters, participating in pre-trial proceedings, trials, sentencing hearings, and appeals.
  • Dive into the intricacies of extensive digital discovery productions, uncovering the details that matter most.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research, applying federal and state case law, statutes, and sentencing guidelines to craft compelling legal arguments.
  • Draft persuasive motions, briefs, and memoranda that shape the trajectory of complex criminal cases.
  • Engage with clients, keeping them informed and supported through every stage of their case.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of attorneys, investigators, and support staff to build robust case strategies.
  • Navigate both federal and local courtrooms, assisting in negotiations, plea discussions, and advocacy at every level.
