About The Position

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Interns at ATC will gain a strong understanding of the public-private partnership that is the A.T.'s Cooperative Management System, as well as key issue areas relating to conservation, volunteerism, and resource management. This internship will allow the intern to gain an understanding of the complex partnership management structure of the A.T. as well as the many resources that contribute to it. The Federal Policy team at ATC is responsible for managing direct relationships with over 60 Congressional offices, 6 Committees, and two federal Departments (including their subsidiary agencies), meaning there is quite a lot of potential exposure and possible impact. The intern will gain an understanding of how government relations work and how the law is in practice will be key components of this internship, as well as experience in how to craft messages for specific audiences and understand motivations in and necessary conditions of policy.
