About The Position

WOOD Federal Solutions is seeking a Federal Opportunity Research Analyst to support the company’s growth strategy by identifying, researching, and tracking federal contracting opportunities aligned with the company’s technical capabilities and target markets. This role focuses on opportunity intelligence and pipeline management, ensuring leadership maintains visibility into upcoming federal procurements across targeted agencies. The analyst will continuously monitor procurement platforms, conduct research on potential opportunities, and maintain the company’s opportunity pipeline within internal tracking systems. The Federal Opportunity Research Analyst plays a key role in enabling strategic decision-making by providing leadership with timely, well-organized information on potential pursuits, market trends, and recompete opportunities. This position is analytical and research-focused, supporting business development strategy through structured market intelligence rather than traditional sales activity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public policy, research, engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–6 years of experience supporting federal contracting, market research, or business development analysis.
  • Experience using federal opportunity platforms and/or similar market intelligence tools.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing structured information within tracking systems or project management tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting federal government contractors, particularly in defense or intelligence community markets.
  • Familiarity with federal acquisition processes including Sources Sought, RFIs, draft RFPs, and final solicitations.
  • Experience conducting competitive analysis or federal market intelligence.
  • Experience using pipeline tracking tools.
  • Understanding of federal contract vehicles and procurement lifecycle timing.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor federal procurement platforms, agency forecast portals, and other industry sources to identify new opportunities aligned with capabilities.
  • Track upcoming procurements, recompetes, and forecasted opportunities across targeted federal agencies.
  • Identify early indicators of new procurements including Sources Sought notices, Requests for Information (RFIs), and draft solicitations.
  • Maintain and manage the company’s opportunity pipeline ensuring opportunities are accurately tracked and updated.
  • Track key procurement milestones including forecast releases, pre-solicitation notices, solicitation releases, and proposal due dates.
  • Ensure opportunity data is current and organized for leadership review and decision-making.
  • Develop concise opportunity briefs.
  • Evaluate opportunities for alignment with technical capabilities and strategic focus areas.
  • Conduct research on federal agency mission areas and procurement trends.
  • Track recompete opportunities for existing contracts approaching expiration.
  • Monitor competitor activity and identify potential teaming or partnership opportunities.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on pipeline status.
