About The Position

The Federal Critical Operations Technician I (COT) is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping systems and controls throughout the facility. This role monitors building operations and performs routine assessments of system performance. Responsibilities include conducting tests, rounds, and data analysis to ensure equipment functions properly. The technician also supports customers on the Data Center floor, both in person and via phone, by installing equipment, managing service tickets, escalating alerts, and assisting with hardware, software, and operating system tasks. This role is onsite, supporting a 24/7/365 data center environment and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of technical training, military experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • Background in electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Copilot, Outlook, and web-based applications.
  • Must be eligible for security clearance up to TS/SCI with CI polygraph.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract obligations

Nice To Haves

  • Deep understanding of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems), generators, transformers, switchgear (equipment that controls, protects, and isolates electrical equipment), UPSs (Uninterruptible Power Supplies), STSs (Static Transfer Switches), PDUs (Power Distribution Units), air-cooled chillers, CRAHs (Computer Room Air Handlers), CRACs (Computer Room Air Conditioners), fire suppression systems, DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management), network switches ), and fiber connections.
  • Experience writing or using MOPs (Methods of Procedure), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), EOPs (Emergency Operating Procedures), coordinating vendors, and documenting work thoroughly in a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management), or BMS (Building Management System) environment.
  • Experience with NFPA 70E, OSHA 10, OSHA 1910.147 LOTO, EPA Section 608 Schneider Electric Data Center Certified Associate.
  • One or more years of experience in a data center, NOC, or similar environment.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; able to work across all organizational levels.

Responsibilities

  • Apply technical knowledge and company policies to tasks involving electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment; monitor and adjust systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Provide remote hands and eyes support for customers.
  • Assist with hardware/software configuration and installation of suite walls, cage materials, ladder racks, fiber trays, cabinets, cabling, and customer equipment per provisioning documentation and procedures.
  • Install and repair mechanical and electrical equipment; support team members with major repairs.
  • Process work orders for preventive and corrective maintenance; coordinate with supervisor or team lead to obtain necessary tools and equipment.
  • Create and update tickets in the ticketing system for customer requests, facility issues, and system alerts.
  • Operate and monitor critical and non-critical systems to ensure safe and compliant performance.
  • Respond to building emergencies and customer requests.
  • Follow safety protocols for handling hazardous materials.
  • Use the Change Management Process to obtain maintenance approvals and document work using QTS systems.
