About The Position

Assist with the Planetarium office functions and serves as a cashier for Planetarium events. For many students, part-time student employment on campus is the beginning of their working career. To be eligible for Student Employment: Undergraduate Students · Undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester of college-level courses or accepted remedial courses. · International undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours to meet the federal immigration guidelines. · Must maintain a 2.0 TAMIU overall GPA. Graduate Students: · Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours per semester. · International graduate students must enroll in 9 semester credit hours in order to meet the federal immigration guidelines. · Must maintain a 3.0 TAMIU overall GPA. Students who will be graduating may enroll for less than half time for their final semester. Must submit proof of graduation. Federal and State Work Study positions It may also be advantageous for you to apply for financial aid to assist you with meeting your educational goals. This may also include being eligible for the Federal Work Study and State Work Study programs.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates' students.
  • Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent residence, or has an alien registration number.an eligible non-citizen.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
  • Knowledge of proper telephone techniques and etiquette, excellent spelling, grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Functional abilities in Microsoft Office Suite and other office related software packages.
  • Verbal and mathematical abilities sufficient to conduct the duties of this position.
  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
  • Promptly complete all required training.
  • Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly.
  • Position may require moving and lifting objects and materials as necessary.
  • All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as cashier.
  • Communicate diplomatically/clearly/effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with all employees.
  • Answer telephones, written and in-person inquiries about the Planetarium.
  • Provide backup support to other Planetarium staff.
  • Learn Internet resources and Planetarium equipment operation (including a cash register) and new programs as technology changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
