Location: South Texas Food Bank 2121 Jefferson St. Laredo, TX 78040 Mission: To alleviate hunger in the eight-county service area in the South Texas area by collecting and distributing food through partner agencies and programs while creating awareness and educating the community on the realities of hunger. Website: https://www.southtexasfoodbank.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/southtexasfoodbank/ Job Summary Community Work-Study Program The Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non-profit organizations that serve the public interest. Goals of this program include: Develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and be assigned to local non-profit, government, or community-based organizations. Apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom. Enhance career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership. Articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits. South Texas Food Bank is seeking a reliable, service-oriented Program Intern to support daily operations and direct client services. This position provides hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, community engagement, and public service while directly supporting individuals and families facing food insecurity in South Texas. The Program Intern plays a critical role in ensuring efficient food distribution, accurate record-keeping, and positive client experiences—particularly when serving elderly and vulnerable populations.

Requirements

Interest in psychology, social services, public administration, nonprofit work, or related fields.
Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates students.
Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
Must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent residence, or has an alien registration number.an eligible non-citizen.
Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Responsibilities

Assist with client registration and intake during food distribution days
Provide direct support to clients, including elderly individuals, to ensure they receive food items accurately and respectfully
Offer translation services when needed to support effective communication with clients
Support food distribution efforts, including organizing, packing, and handing out food items
Assist with inventory organization, tracking, and restocking
Help maintain orderly distribution spaces to ensure a smooth and safe process
Manage and update client databases accurately
Assist with data entry, filing, and documentation related to food assistance programs
Support compliance with program requirements such as TEFAP guidelines
Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners
Provide support during high-volume service days in a fast-paced environment
Represent the South Texas Food Bank with professionalism and compassion
