Website: https://www.laredocrimestoppers.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/laredocrimestoppers Job Summary The Community Work Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non-profit organizations that serve the public interest. Goals of this program include: Develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and be assigned to local non-profit, government, or community-based organizations. Apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom. Enhance career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership. Articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits. Laredo Crime Stoppers is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Program Intern to join their team. The intern will support various aspects of our crime prevention and community engagement initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, community outreach, and public safety programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in criminal justice, public administration, or nonprofit management.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates' students.
  • Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent residence, or has an alien registration number.an eligible non-citizen.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
  • Position requires on campus, face to face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
  • Promptly complete all required training.
  • Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Passion for community service and crime prevention.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Subject to funding and/or need.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate majoring in Criminal Justice, Public administration, sociology, communications or related field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with social media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Program Support: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of crime prevention programs and events. Support the implementation of community outreach activities, including workshops, seminars, and public awareness campaigns. Help maintain program schedules, track progress, and report on outcomes.
  • Community Engagement: Work with community partners to promote Laredo Crime Stoppers’ initiatives. Participate in community meetings and events to represent the organization and gather feedback. Assist in developing and distributing informational materials such as flyers, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of program activities and outcomes. Assist with general office tasks such as answering phones, responding to emails, and organizing files.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on crime trends, prevention strategies, and best practices in community safety. Analyze data to identify areas for program improvement and increased impact. Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Marketing and Communications: Contribute to the creation and management of content for social media platforms and the organization’s website. Assist in designing marketing materials and promotional campaigns. Help monitor and respond to public inquiries through social media and other communication channels.
