About The Position

The Software Engineer position at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston involves designing, developing, and implementing complex software solutions primarily in a cloud environment. This role is part of the FedNow initiative, which aims to transform the payments landscape in the United States by providing real-time payment solutions. The position requires advanced technical expertise in applications systems analysis and programming, with a focus on backend development and cloud technologies. The role offers opportunities for collaboration within an Agile team and requires minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of software engineering experience in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud-first architectures and building/deploying solutions in the cloud.
  • Experience with Serverless architecture and CI/CD build tools.
  • Experience developing high-performance, highly available environments.
  • Proficient in Java and knowledge of programming languages such as JavaScript, XML, JSON, HTML, CSS, and Python.
  • Proficient knowledge of operating systems (Linux, Unix, Windows) and database development (SQL, Oracle, DB2).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AWS cloud-based platforms in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with leading-edge cloud technologies such as Kafka, in-memory and NoSQL databases, and messaging platforms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Proficient knowledge of cloud security for application development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement new complex software solutions in accordance with FedNow and Fed Standards.
  • Develop software solutions primarily in a cloud environment.
  • Provide input into strategic and tactical planning of software solutions and software development lifecycle changes.
  • Design and build Java application components, integrating with high-performing software products.
  • Train and consult cross-functionally on troubleshooting and resolving complex problems.
  • Collaborate with analysts to define user requirements and conduct design reviews for cloud applications.
  • Ensure the quality of software developed and compliance with Fed policies and standards.
  • Provide primary or backup production support for applications.
