About The Position

The Feather Process Operator at Tyson RVI-Harmony rendering plant is responsible for overseeing the processing of feathers to produce feather meal, a valuable protein source used in animal feed. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Feather Process Operator will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient production of high-quality feather meal while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in food science, industrial technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong technical skills and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to understand and operate complex machinery and equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety protocols accurately.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed to support production schedules and operational needs.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures applicable to feather processing operations and industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks as required.

  • At least one year of experience in a manufacturing, production or industrial setting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate feather processing equipment, including feather cookers, dryers, and mills, to process feathers into feather meal according to production schedules and specifications.
  • Monitor process parameters, equipment operation, and product quality to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on processing equipment to ensure reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and mechanical issues, performing repairs or adjustments as needed to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with production and logistics teams to schedule feather processing operations and prioritize production needs based on inventory levels and customer requirements.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Conduct quality checks on feather meal, including visual inspections, moisture content analysis, and odor assessments, to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Record production data, equipment readings, and process parameters accurately and comprehensively in logbooks and computerized systems.
  • Clean and sanitize processing equipment, work areas, and tools regularly to prevent contamination and ensure product quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency enhancements.
