About The Position

The Feather Process operator controls the cooking process from hydrolyzing raw feathers to a finished product. This role involves operating a straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicle equipped with a front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop. The operator lifts and transports bulk materials to and from storage processing areas, feeding cookers, hoppers, or chutes. Key duties include hydrolyzing and drying raw feathers, sizing, running machinery to process cooked feathers into feather meal, and transferring hydrolyzed feather meal to storage. The operator starts the engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns the steering wheel to operate the loader, moving levers to manipulate the bucket for loading and dumping materials. Routine maintenance on the loader, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning, is also required. Additionally, the operator is responsible for filling feather cookers and tightening domes to ensure proper cooking. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must have 3 months of work history with one employer within the last 2 years listed on application
  • State Driver License needed to obtain an industrial truck license (PIT)
  • Willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation

Responsibilities

  • Hydrolyzing raw feathers
  • Drying the raw feathers
  • Sizing
  • Running the Machinery that processes the cooked feathers into make feather meal
  • Transferring of hydrolyzed feather meal to storage
  • Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader
  • Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material
  • Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle at work site, and moves levers to dump material
  • Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning
  • Fills Feather Cooker’s and tightens the domes to ensure the materials cooks correctly
  • Keep work area clean and free of clutter (housekeeping)
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Using correct tool for each job assignment
  • Report injury of oneself or coworker to management
  • Report job hazards immediately (correct immediately when possible) and document
  • Inspect all tools and materials for defects and safety issues
  • Follow all safety rules and guidelines
