About The Position

The Functional Capacity Evaluator (FCE) / Physical Therapist partners with physicians and case managers to provide comprehensive care and objective functional assessments for patients. In addition to traditional physical therapy services, this clinician specializes in performing Functional Capacity Evaluations to determine a patient’s ability to safely perform work-related tasks and daily activities. The role includes developing treatment plans, conducting evaluations, and providing evidence-based interventions to optimize recovery and functional independence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree from an accredited physical therapy program.
  • Georgia State License granted by the Georgia Board of Physical Therapy required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR, BLS) certification required.
  • Extensive knowledge of physical therapy care and treatment of orthopedic injuries and illnesses.
  • Proficiency in conducting and interpreting FCEs using standardized protocols and FCE software.
  • Strong documentation skills for EMR and legal reporting.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license and ability to travel between sites if applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty certifications welcome; orthopedics preferred.
  • Experience performing Functional Capacity Evaluations strongly recommended.
  • Two years of experience treating patients in an orthopedic or rehabilitation setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) using standardized protocols to assess strength, endurance, range of motion, and functional abilities related to work and daily living.
  • Document FCE findings clearly and concisely for use in return-to-work decisions, disability determinations, and legal cases.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing FCE results, including objective data and clinical interpretation.
  • Prepare disability or impairment rating recommendations for physician review.
  • Communicate FCE outcomes and recommendations to physicians, case managers, employers, and insurance representatives as appropriate.
  • Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations, including patient history, systems review, and tests/measures to identify impairments and functional limitations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in accordance with physician instructions and patient goals.
  • Provide interventions to improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities.
  • Supervise PTAs, technicians, and students to ensure compliance with treatment plans and scope of practice.
  • Modify interventions as necessary to achieve anticipated goals and expected outcomes, including discharge planning.
  • Maintain compliance with documentation standards and participate in chart audits as requested.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through clear, comprehensive, and frequent communication with patients and stakeholders.
  • Educate patients on injury prevention, conditioning, and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Maintain productivity and meet performance expectations.
  • Support clinic cleanliness and organization, including cleaning tables and laundry duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
