About The Position

The mission of Fathers and Families Center (FFC) is “To build a noble legacy of fatherhood – assisting fathers in achieving self-sufficiency and in strengthening families to improve the life chances of children.” We accomplish this by working with fathers and their families to help them to be better partners, providers and parents. The Family Support Services Specialist works directly with fathers and their families to assist them in:  identifying and achieving goals; developing educational, employment and life skills, and accessing support services to help move them out of poverty towards stability and self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years of case management experience in a mental health, behavioral science, or social services work setting; OR,
  • Two (2) or more years of college and five (5) years of case management experience in a social service setting.
  • Understand and communicate effectively with target population, necessitating familiarity with the issues of parenting, relationships, mental health, substance abuse, violence, and the criminal justice system.
  • Communicate in a concise and easily understandable manner with professionals, paraprofessionals, and the target population.
  • Ability to use age-appropriate communication skills.
  • Adapt processes according to the needs of the individual clients and couples.
  • Prioritize tasks and work effectively with complex tasks under time pressure.
  • Work with general supervision and exercise independent judgment, utilizing diplomacy, tact, and good customer relations skills.
  • Knowledge of education, employment, healthcare, and other community resources available to help low-income parents.
  • Demonstrates interest and the ability to provide relationship-strengthening education.
  • Able to recognize own abilities and limitations in provision of services to participates
  • Competence in computer usage, MS Office software and databases with ability/willingness to learn other systems.
  • Can effectively utilize various online and virtual platforms for education and outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach to various community groups (faith, governmental and community).
  • Provide group orientation sessions to those interested in participating in the Center’s services.
  • Conduct and document initial intake interviews and assessments.
  • Document participant needs, particularly their barriers to program completion, employment, and continued education/training; take action to meet participant needs through direct services, external referrals, or both.
  • Provide extensive case management and follow-up services to participants to confirm their progress or to take corrective action 
  • Coordinates specialty workshops and/or other special events/activities for fathers and/or their families.
  • Conducts classes and workshops regarding topics including, but not limited to, parenting, relationship-strengthening, life skills, job readiness, and healthy behaviors.
  • Assist with delivering assigned grant funded programs and services
