About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with programming the Canton Farmers Market, Community Gardens, and various related special events. Work assignments will occur at various Township facilities and community spaces.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High School Graduate or GED Required.
  • Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns, which include, but are not limited to, convictions of reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
  • Must obtain CPR/AED and first aid certification within 30 days of employment. CPR/AED and first aid classes are free to Township employees. Certification through an organization approved by Michigan's Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing division, may also be accepted.
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays, with an emphasis on Sundays during the regular Market Season (May–October).
  • Ability to work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Previous customer service experience required, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and both written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to perform manual lifting and loading of program supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to execute policies and procedures with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate techniques and skills associated with assigned programs and activities.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and monitors vendors and guests of the Canton Farmers Market and related programs and activities as assigned.
  • Plans, organizes, monitors, and conducts the Canton Farmers Market and related programs and activities as assigned.
  • Coordinates the setup, teardown and cleanup of programs and events.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective day-to-day operations.
  • Responsible for facilities and equipment appearance and cleanliness, including detection and reporting of property and equipment defects.
  • Builds professional relationships with vendors, staff, volunteers and guests.
  • Ensures that safety rules, policies, regulations and procedures for both employees and the general public are met.
  • Maintains accurate program, activity and equipment records.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies for planned Farmers Market programs and events.
  • Provides information for monthly and annual reporting as applicable.
  • Greets and interacts with vendors, guests and community members in a positive and friendly manner and provides excellent customer service.
  • Responsible for responding to, communicating and documenting incidents and emergency situations, including, but not limited to, First Aid, Severe Weather, and Missing Child events.
  • Responsible for remaining aware of community needs and current trends related to Farmers Markets and the recreation field to ensure the delivery of quality customer service.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Ensures that proper ADA accommodations, related to program and facility resources, are being met.
  • Utilizes department-issued software for accurate operation of recreation programs.
  • Assists in completing program and event evaluations.
  • Responsible for the enforcement of departmental rules and regulations, operating procedures and policies.
  • Maintains accurate daily attendance reports as well as accident and incident reports.
  • Ensures accurate money handling in accordance with department policies.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of Township vehicles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
