The East Bay Regional Park District is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual for the position of Farmer I at the Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont, CA. This role is integral to the operation of the farm, which serves as a vibrant public attraction that offers a glimpse into life on a family farm from 1890 to 1930. The Ardenwood Historic Farm spans 205 acres and features a variety of animals, a large hay barn, an outdoor kitchen, and a working blacksmith shop. The park is not only a place for recreation but also serves as an educational resource, connecting visitors with local farming history and the land itself. As a Farmer I, you will be responsible for performing and directing various farming functions to support the farm facilities and ensure they are open to the public. This includes collaborating with interpretive staff on program development, maintaining modern and period farming equipment, and overseeing the selection, planting, irrigation, cultivation, and harvesting of crops. You will also manage orchards and provide care for a variety of farm animals, ensuring their health and well-being through routine inspections and care procedures. The role requires a strong commitment to public interaction, as you will engage with visitors and volunteer groups, sharing knowledge and fostering a welcoming environment.
