About The Position

The Farm Worker position at Hormel Foods is a full-time hourly role focused on general labor to assist the Farm Manager and Farm Assistant Manager in achieving required work goals. Responsibilities include daily chores, operating machinery and equipment, and caring for live turkeys. The role requires light paperwork, some math skills, and the ability to work in varying temperature environments while performing physical tasks such as walking on uneven surfaces, lifting, twisting, bending, and squatting frequently.

Requirements

  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from assigned farm.
  • Good previous attendance records (school and/or previous employment).
  • Able to work 7 days/week with some varied hours and with some weekends and holidays.
  • Possess a level of math, reading, and writing skills necessary for record keeping tasks.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs from floor to waist height frequently, with occasional lifts from floor to full extension.
  • Able to wear eye and respiratory protection equipment on a continuous basis.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma, or actively enrolled in high school, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Help perform daily chores as assigned by farm management.
  • Assist with maintaining litter for optimal conditions for turkeys.
  • Record daily information in flock books for record keeping.
  • Operate machinery and equipment when required.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, including wearing required PPE.
  • Follow all Live Production processes and procedures.
  • Adhere to biosecurity guidelines, including showering before work and using company-provided boots.
  • Perform other duties as instructed and assigned by management.
  • Handle and care for live turkeys in accordance with established animal welfare guidelines.
  • Maintain open communication with fellow employees and farm management.
  • Conduct self in a positive, team-oriented manner.
