About The Position

The Virginia Department of Correction’s (VADOC) Agribusiness Unit is charged
with providing agricultural training opportunities to inmates in an effort to
enhance re-entry and reduce recidivism, while reducing food cost for the
Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC).

To support beef herd operations by utilizing modern management techniques and
technology. Provide training and supervision to inmate workers to ensure proper
cattle management which include handling and feeding of the herd. Assist other
areas of Agribusiness to support operational needs.

Requirements

• Demonstrate ability to operate farm equipment and demonstrated ability to supervise, follow written and oral instructions, keep accurate records and solve practical problems.
• Knowledge of cattle management practices and applications.
• Herd health management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to complete tasks within limited timeframes.
• Skilled in teamwork.

Nice To Haves

• Agricultural, construction or equipment experience.
• Possession of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one preferred.
• Beef Quality Assurance Certification or the ability to obtain one.
