About The Position

Support farm labor needs with primary responsibility of supporting the livestock operations. Full-time, regular position, 40 hours per week. This position pays $19.61/hour, or applicable transfer rate in accordance with the ACSUM collective bargaining agreement. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Perform farm operations, including animal feeding, general facilities upkeep such as mowing lawns, weed trimming, snow removal, and field cultivation, including planting, tending, and harvesting crops. Assist where needed with all farm operations and maintenance. Operate farm equipment such as dairy robotic machines, tractors, skid steers, farm implements, and trucks. Assist with equipment and facility repairs and maintenance. Troubleshoot independently. Communicate effectively with supervisors and students. Complete required safety training and maintain detailed records and reports. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level. Requirements

  • Typically has the education associated with an associate’s degree in agronomy, animal sciences, or a related field or equivalent work experience and training and sufficient experience, including three years of farm operations experience.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and be eligible to be authorized and approved as a university driver based on the Driver Administration Policy.
  • Some knowledge of farm operations and procedures for operating, inspecting, maintaining, and storing assigned equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable conditions.
  • Ability to carry out physically demanding job tasks, including lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in animal sciences or a related field and at least three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of farm operations experience on a dairy farm.
  • Milking and animal husbandry experience.
  • Two years of hands-on mechanical experience, specifically with agricultural machinery and implements.
  • Knowledgeable with checking equipment
