This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Maverick Golf and Ranch Club, set outside of Fort Worth, TX. Maverick Golf and Ranch Club is seeking a Farm Manager to join the Club Operations Department. The Farm Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the farm, organizing the seeding, growing, and harvesting schedule of local fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The Farm manager will provide all team, members and guests with an “above and beyond” service during their time at the garden. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in farm management.
  • Strong understanding of greenhouse, hydroponic systems and farming practices.
  • Experience in food safety practices and management.
  • Ability to operation of farm equipment and full sized tractors.
  • Basic diesel and gas engine mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to perform repairs and maintenance of outbuildings.
  • Strong motivation for sustainability.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall management of the daily maintenance of plants, vegetables, fruits, and flowers to include planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and harvesting.
  • Manage the seeding schedule for all fruits and vegetables, knowledge of the local county best practices for growing and timing of crop rotation.
  • Manage all landscaping within the farm perimeter, including but not limited to mowing, weeding, pruning, irrigating, pasture management, etc.
  • Manage care for farm animals to include but not limited to providing food, water, and cleaning pens/cages.
  • Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns immediately to the GM and Executive Chef.
  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance for work area throughout the day.
  • Develop continual improvement programs to assist in upgrading the farm ambiance and overall look.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of small garden tools and machinery such as tractors and tillers.
  • Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked.
  • Collaborating with executive leadership team to prepare budgets and financial reports.
  • Communicate harvesting schedules to the Food and Beverage, Culinary, and Member Services departments.
  • Monitor harvest weights and amounts to share with Executive Chef.
  • Work with the garden team and culinary team to create and execute new offerings, farm dinners and activities.
  • Stock and re-stock items as needed.
  • Attend department meetings and trainings as necessary.
  • Showcase the farm/barn/garden areas to members, guests, and prospects by talking about the offerings and benefits.
  • Respond to all member requests promptly and with care.
  • Instruct and participate in member activities at the farm, teaching and assisting in member and family events at the farm.
  • Hire, train, direct, and supervise farm staff.
  • Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.
  • Complete daily set-up and breakdown of all of the department’s activities, monitor team and their productivity.
  • Provide consulting services to other Discovery Land Company projects as requested.
