About The Position

The Farm Foreman II supervises and participates in farm operations related to native seed production. This position is responsible for overseeing planting, irrigation, pest control, harvesting, and overall crop protection. The role includes equipment operation and maintenance, inventory management, and supporting farm staff to ensure safe and efficient operations. The position is located in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four years of related experience in farm operations, agriculture, or similar field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat
  • Ability to move up to 50 lbs with assistance
  • Ability to move light, medium or heavy objects with assistance.
  • Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment safely
  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines
  • This position is security sensitive
  • This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
  • This position may require up to 10% (specify percentage) or more travel
  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends not to exceed 40 hours in a week.
  • This position may direct and/or evaluate the work of others
  • This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with native seed production or agricultural research.
  • Experience operating and maintaining a wide range of farm equipment
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience
  • Knowledge of farm machinery, equipment, and agricultural operations
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a farm environment
  • Basic computer skills, including use of software for data tracking and reporting
  • Familiarity with technical or agricultural equipment and tools
  • Ability to analyze data and support operational decision-making

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles, trailers, and farm equipment including combines, tractors, tillage implements, sprayers, shredders, and planters.
  • Performs research and crop production duties using farm machinery.
  • Assists in planting, maintaining, and harvesting research and production fields.
  • Supports pest control, irrigation, and crop production efforts.
  • Assists in implementing short and long term operational plans
  • Utilizes technology to improve productivity and optimize farm performance.
  • Communicates with project partners to ensure efficient production plans, maximizing field space and efficiency.
  • Maintains equipment and seed inventories.
  • Assists in custodial care and upkeep of farm buildings and facilities.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs on farm equipment and facilities.
  • Assists in training and supervision of staff
  • Promotes safe work practices and professional development.
  • Supervises farm workers and employees as needed.
