The Farm Assistant possesses a passion for working with various farm animals, supports the daily functions of our farm, and has excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with the public. Please note: This is a part-time position up to 25-28 hours per week and requires flexible availability.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working on a farm or with farm animals preferred.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of farm animals, including but not limited to, alpacas, horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with visitors of all ages.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a proactive and adaptable attitude towards tasks.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate farm schedules and special events. Must be available regularly on Saturday or Sunday.
  • High school education or equivalent preferred; supplemented by one to two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training; will train

  • Prior knowledge of farm animal care preferred

Responsibilities

  • Engage with visitors to the farm, providing educational tours, demonstrations, hosting birthday parties, and answering questions about farming practices and animal care.
  • Assist in the daily care and maintenance of farm animals, including feeding, grooming, and monitoring their health.
  • Perform routine farm chores such as cleaning animal enclosures, mending fences, and maintaining farm equipment.
  • Support volunteers on the farm through training and positive interactions.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of special events and educational programs hosted at the farm.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure the smooth operation of daily tasks and projects.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure environment for both animals and visitors.
