About The Position

The Weld County Department of Human Services (WCDHS) provides visitation services to actively monitor, assess, and assist in adult/child interactions between parents/relatives/caregivers and children. The goal is to improve relationship quality and facilitate family reunification. The Family Time Worker I will intervene in parent/child relationships using evidence-based interventions to equip parents with tools for safe and effective child care. The primary office is in Greeley, with travel throughout Weld County. Client appointments may occur at the Family Time Center, in family homes, or neutral community locations. This is an in-person position, not eligible for consistent telework. The work schedule includes Sunday 8 am-5 pm and Monday-Wednesday 3 pm-7 pm, totaling 20 hours per week, with specific days and hours determined by business needs. Work may involve driving to and from appointments, transporting children, and working in client homes, which could be hostile or unsanitary environments. Occasional after-hours and on-call work may be required. Ideal candidates enjoy working with children and families, possess strong interpersonal skills, value team collaboration, can prioritize workload, resolve conflict, problem-solve in a fast-paced environment, are self-starters, and have strong independent skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months experience working in a public or private social services agency (may include internship).
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends to accommodate families.
  • Ability to keyboard at 40 words per minute.
  • Ability to enter data into several different computer programs.
  • Ability to learn and apply new computer skills on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Windows and Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations with parents, foster parents, relative care providers, and community partners.
  • Ability to clearly articulate concepts, directives and goals to employees, professionals and state and community representatives.
  • Ability to apply math concepts and calculations in the work environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense to problem solve in a work environment.
  • Ability to adapt to fast paced, high volume and ever-changing work environment and be able to handle high stress and conflict filled situations while remaining calm and professional.
  • Well versed in effective conflict resolution and possess ability to deescalate hostile situations.
  • Pass Department of Human Services background checks prior to employment start date.
  • Pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.
  • Pass a CBI/FBI fingerprint check prior to employment start date and will continue to be subject to CBI/FBI monitoring throughout employment.
  • Obtain and maintain 20 hours of job specific training annually.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Liability Insurance.
  • Pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) evaluation and if hired, will be subject to continuous monthly MVR monitoring and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide own transportation and be willing to travel as needed to meet the essential functions of the position.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provide monitored and supervised family time sessions and orientations on site, in the community and in-home.
  • Provide in-the-moment interventions that uphold the child’s physical and emotional safety as well as the FTC policies and guidelines.
  • Provide parent education either formally through structured curriculum, or informally through interventions and modeling, for each case.
  • Create goals with clients using strength-based engagement techniques.
  • Develop rapport with parents and learns about their family culture/values and work to identify dysfunctional family relationships, cross-generational patterns and trauma experiences which are negatively impacting the safety of the child(ren).
  • Conduct parenting or family time assessments.
  • Promote progress towards permanency in cases.
  • Thoroughly document progress of parent and parent child relationships and participate as an active part of the treatment team by making recommendations on treatment planning, permanency goals, and placement recommendations.
  • Ensure documentation is uploaded in appropriate data bases by dictated timelines.
  • Attend family engagement meetings, group supervisions, staff meetings, staff training, regular supervisory meetings, and other agency or community meetings as requested.
  • Maintain and increase knowledge and skills through attendance to meetings, conferences, training seminars and in-service training sessions.
  • Testify at corresponding hearings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Work closely with the assistant county attorneys to ensure they have the latest updates on the case and that you are prepared for court hearing.
  • Provide coverage for other Family Time Workers.
  • Handle ICPC case assignments.
  • Handle Diligent Search assignments.
  • Perform upkeep/organization of the Family Time Center.
  • Understand and implement rules and regulations for Child Welfare organizations in Colorado outlined in the State of Colorado Department of Human Services Volume 7 guidelines.
