About The Position

Cayuga Counseling Services, Inc. a private, non-for-profit health and human service agency located in Auburn, NY has a Full Time Family Therapist position available. The Family Therapist provides clinical assessments and therapeutic services to children and youth up to age 23, and their families who have a traumatic event. The role emphasizes a family systems approach, engaging caregivers and other family members as active participants in treatment. Services will be provided in an office setting as well as in schools, home and other community locations.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in a mental health related field (Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy)
  • Marriage and Family Therapy is strongly preferred
  • NYS licensure is required
  • Experience working with children, youth, and families impacted by trauma.
  • Strong understanding of family systems theory, child development, and trauma-informed care.
  • the ability to engage and build rapport with both youth and caregivers.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of victim services and experience serving victims of a crime preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive clinical assessment of child, youth, and family systems.
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy using evidence-based, trauma- informed modalities.
  • Identify the modality that will best meet the presenting needs of the family as a whole and make recommendations.
  • Modalities that will be provided through this program include Trauma-Focused Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Expanded Early Pathways for Young Traumatized Children, Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention and Parent Child Interaction Therapy.
  • Be part of the Multi- Disciplinary Team, attend meetings and provide information about trauma and its effects on children.
  • Attend case review meetings weekly, provide input on progress and adjust treatment plan as appropriate.
  • Participate in staff meetings, clinical supervision.
  • Participate in staff development activities, in-service training and committees as appropriate.
  • Consult with program staff to assure effective coordinated service delivery.
  • Maintain timely and appropriate documentation and record keeping.
  • All other duties as assigned
