The BSFT therapist will provide Brief Strategic Family Therapy, a trauma sensitive, strength based, culturally competent and evidenced based practice that is effective in improving family communication, reducing alcohol use in parents, and in reducing adolescents' substance use in families where parents are using drugs at baseline. BSFT is also effective in decreasing alcohol use among parents by improving family functioning. BSFT therapists work with children aged 6-18 years while working with the family to restructure problematic family interactions. The goal is to improve the youth’s behavior problems by improving the circumstances that are directly related to the child’s symptoms. Therapist will help families develop the skills and resources needed to strengthen the family unit and prevent out of home and/or entry/re-entry into foster care.
