About The Position

The Family Team Support Coordinator will work closely with local Safe Babies Court Team Judges in Northern New Jersey to enhance outcomes for infants and toddlers entering the foster care system. This leadership-level role serves as a public representative of the program, requiring both office-based work in Wayne, NJ, and community engagement across Passaic, Hudson, and Essex counties. The Coordinator will facilitate collaboration among community stakeholders, support families in navigating the child welfare system, and ensure effective communication and advocacy for parents involved in the program.

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in child welfare and family law.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field preferred, or extensive lived experience in lieu of formal education.
  • Driver's License required.
  • Bachelor's degree in child development, social work, or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the impact of abuse and neglect on infant/toddler development.
  • Professional or lived experience with foster care and the child welfare system.
  • Experience working with juvenile and family court judges.
  • Prior experience implementing parent education or support programs for adults with mental health challenges or developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with judicial leadership to implement recommendations of the Safe Babies Court Team (SBCT).
  • Provide emotional and logistical support for parents involved in the SBCT.
  • Engage parents and their supports to facilitate communication and support self-advocacy.
  • Ensure parents are connected to community supports and services, including locating a parent mentor if needed.
  • Maintain regular contact with biological and resource (foster) families in each case.
  • Coordinate and lead monthly Family Team Meetings for each family's stakeholder team.
  • Assess community needs for training/technical assistance to meet SBCT goals.
  • Handle logistical arrangements for local training and collaborate with other organizations to provide training and technical assistance regionally or statewide.
  • Build collaborative relationships with other Community Coordinators to ensure consistency in implementing the SBCT approach.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to facilitate the referral process and address individual case issues.
  • Work with the judge and larger stakeholder group to implement SBCT Core Components.
  • Implement the Infant Toddler Court Team evaluation plan, collecting data on SBCT cases and entering it into the database.
  • Prepare progress reports as required and contribute to other reports as requested.
  • Participate in monthly SBCT Site Leadership Team calls and other regular project conference calls.
