About The Position

The Family Support Worker position at the Florida Department of Health in Broward County is part of the WIC program, focusing on providing support to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Requirements

• Current employee of Florida Department of Health (includes OPS, Career Service, SES or SMS employees).
• Experience working as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor in a WIC office.
• Willingness to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.

Nice To Haves

• Willingness to work early morning and late evening hours and Saturdays.
• Experience documenting breastfeeding education and support in FLWISE (the Florida WIC data system).

Responsibilities

• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone and in the WIC clinic.
• Teaches breastfeeding educational classes and conducts breastfeeding support groups in the WIC clinic.
• Follows up on all pregnant clients to ensure they attend a breastfeeding class and offer support.
• Follows up on all breastfeeding clients after delivery to ensure successful breastfeeding.
• Processes referrals for electric breast pumps and instructs clients on their use and maintenance.
• Retrieves messages and returns calls received from the breastfeeding warmline.
• Attends breastfeeding trainings, workshops, and staff meetings.
• Completes leave, attendance, EARs, travel, and other reports as required.
