About the Program and Family Support Counselor Position: Share out belief that we all have the ability to change by using a strengths-based approach to help stabilize families involved in the child welfare system. Our Family Support Program (FSP) serves families that have a child/children at risk of foster care placement or are in need of an intensive program. This program runs for 4-6 months with 1-2 clinician meetings a week. The goal of the program is to reduce the risk of removal, and reduce the involvement of Child Protective Services in a family's life. Our clinicians work with families to help build skills to increase positive interactions in the home and in the community. The program offers a wide range of services that are customized to support the family's needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with Three years of applicable experience in children's mental health, addiction, and/or foster care/child welfare/juvenile justice, or other related human services field and certification in an Evidence-Based Practice.
  • Must be actively enrolled in a relevant Master's Degree program - required
  • Master's in Human Services or related field - required.
  • Valid NYS driver's license - required

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Creative Art Therapy - preferred
  • Experience working with children and families in a community-based or "in-home" setting
  • Knowledge of the child welfare system
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
  • Possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to appreciate and encourage diversity and understand the concept of cultural trauma as it applies to individual and family functioning

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate your areas of clinical strength by implementing various therapeutic interventions/modalities in your practice, which heavily include solution-focused therapy
  • Model and teach basic life skills to empower individuals and families to become self-sufficient
  • Become a primary support in helping families develop preventative and responsive skills to crisis
  • Serve as a leader in collaborative efforts to develop an individualized service plan that will drive the provision of Resiliency services and deliver in a manner that is trauma-informed and strengths-based
  • Demonstrate an inclusive and accepting practice both in the office and in the field to support a diverse and accepting culture
