About The Position

LifeNet Health is searching for talented individuals who will embrace our mission of saving lives, restoring health, and giving hope. The Family Support Coordinator (FSC) obtains authorization for donation, provides organ-donation-informed emotional support and guidance to family members of potential organ donors by providing assistance with end-of-life decisions. The FSC is required to make independent decisions when approaching families based on training and experience. Collaborates with hospital staff as well as other LNH staff to determine the appropriate time to approach the family to obtain authorization and perform Donor Risk assessment form.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, End of Life/Bereavement Care, Pastoral Care, Crisis intervention or related field.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Three (3) years' experience with Social Work, End of Life/Bereavement Care, Pastoral Care, Healthcare, or related Field.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, End of Life/Bereavement Care, Pastoral Care, Crisis intervention or related field.
  • Five (5) years' prior experience in an OPO or Transplant Center or experience with care of donor family.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, hospital staff, and families in crisis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Able to learn medical terminology and common medical conditions leading to brain death.
  • Able to prioritize multiple, competing priorities and manage time/workload.
  • Able to perform tasks thoroughly and with care.
  • Proficient in MS Office: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and high emotional situations.
  • Ability to build internal and external relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains authorization for donation and works empathetically with families in crisis to advocate for donation and transplantation.
  • Provides timely support to families that are in need and have the possibility of becoming a donor.
  • Focuses on Donation after Cardiac Death and non-registered donor potential donors.
  • Communicates complicated clinical topics.
  • Develops effective professional and personal relationships quickly and possesses superior communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to engage in emotionally charged situations and display their experience in crisis assessment, intervention, and counseling.
  • Works within hospital to increase physician and other hospital personnel openness and responsiveness to potential organ and tissue donation.
  • Conducts the Donor risk assessment interview with the family or next of kin and documents accurately.
