About The Position

Assists in the planning, administering, monitoring, and evaluating of the day-to-day operations of a small Family Store with a limited staff ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; processes, displays, and prices donated items to ensure a maximum financial return on the sale of store items; assists customers in a polite and friendly manner; prepares store displays that are attractive, neat, and orderly; rotates and re-stocks store merchandise to ensure quick turnover; ensures the accountability and security of all store items and funds; may serve as a supervisor and/or lead worker to volunteers and/or subordinate store personnel. Supervisory Responsibilities (20%) Assists Family Store Manager in planning, scheduling, assigning, and supervising the work of subordinate personnel; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures. In absence of the Family Store Manager, assumes all duties including supervisory responsibilities. Plans, supervises and participates in the layout and display of store merchandise; ensures that stock is routinely rotated and ensures that prices encourage the desired level of stock turnover; plans, organizes, and supervises the preparation of displays for special promotions or seasons; notifies the warehouse personnel of low-stock items. Supervises and participates in the receiving, sorting, pricing and distribution of donated items in the warehouse; ensures that items are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures. Opens and/or closes store doors in accordance with the store schedule. Customer Services Responsibilities (40%) Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares and delivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures. Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience. Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area; assists with hauling donations to the storage area as needed; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed. Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups. Store Orderliness and Cleanliness Responsibilities (40%) Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked. Places and arranges items in the store; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customers have handled. Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • One to two years supervisory experience working in a retail store environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver's License
