About The Position

The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is seeking a Family Services Trainer to lead the development and delivery of high-quality training programs for new and existing staff. This role is essential in ensuring our workforce is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to provide exceptional services to families in our community. The Family Services Trainer plays a critical role in shaping a skilled and engaged workforce by designing, implementing, and evaluating impactful training programs for staff in the Family Services Division. You will manage many aspects of the onboarding process for newly hired, promoted, or transferred employees. In this position, you will identify training needs, develop innovative curricula and materials, and lead dynamic training sessions that drive professional growth and organizational success. You’ll have the opportunity to influence agency-wide initiatives, assess program effectiveness, and set strategic goals for continuous improvement. This role also involves managing resources, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating on new program development to support evolving agency priorities. Additionally, you will be responsible for the development and supervision of interns, providing mentorship and guidance to foster their professional growth. As a key contributor, you will participate in cross-functional meetings, attend industry seminars, and stay ahead of regulatory changes—positioning yourself as a trusted expert and thought leader. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education, or closely related field; supplemented with work experience and/or training that includes social work, training/teaching, curricula development, supervision, and personal computer operations required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
  • A Chesterfield County application is also required and must be submitted online by the deadline.
  • This position is part of an Emergency Shelter Team during times of natural disaster, reporting to shelter duty as required.

  • Proficient in assessing training needs, evaluating data, interpreting regulations, and managing multiple priorities independently to organize schedules and coordinate activities effectively preferred.
  • Understanding of human needs, social problems, and related policies, principles, and practices to effectively train others on current social service programs preferred.
  • Skilled in curriculum development, training methods, and delivery techniques that promote adult learning, including use of audiovisual and computer-based tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with departmental policies, procedures, terminology, and applicable laws, regulations, and standards governing training activities preferred.
