About The Position

The Family Services Specialist at UMOS is responsible for providing ongoing support to family services staff and ensuring the quality of services delivered to families. This role involves monitoring eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment, and attendance of children in compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as developing and implementing various programs to enhance family engagement and support.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience working with families and/or communities in a Migrant and Seasonal Head Start or similar setting.
  • Completed an Associate degree (Bachelor's degree preferred) in Social Work or a related field.
  • Demonstrated basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and valid insurance.
  • Ability to travel both intrastate and interstate and work irregular hours.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support to the family services staff and ensure the quality of services to families.
  • Utilize data management systems to monitor eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment, and attendance of children.
  • Verify income and eligibility qualifications of children and families, ensuring applications are complete and data is accurately entered.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of a comprehensive Recruitment, Selection, and Enrollment plan for the Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Program.
  • Ensure ongoing monitoring, tracking, follow-up, and analysis of enrollment and attendance data, producing regular reports for management meetings.
  • Direct recruitment activities in response to enrollment and waitlist data.
  • Implement a 'Family Management Services System' to maximize service delivery to families.
  • Provide training and technical assistance as mandated in the Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a transition program plan for record transfer and continuity of services.
  • Assist the Family Services Director in developing a systematic child/family file format for organization and information retrieval.
  • Develop and implement the Fatherhood Program to support father-friendly environments and increase male involvement.
  • Prepare and plan for center meetings, parent committee meetings, and Policy Council meetings in conjunction with Family Services Managers.
  • Assist Family Services Advocates with training for parents on life skills and parent education.
  • Work with center personnel to access community agency services for family needs.
  • Provide oversight to the development of Resource Directories for families in conjunction with Family Services Managers.
  • Assist regional management teams with gathering and completing Migrant interpretation of relevant data for the MSHS Program's Community Assessment.
  • Monitor all ERSEA records, Family Partnerships Plans, and Governance activities related to documentation.
  • Attend appropriate meetings, seminars, and workshops.
  • Complete and submit various reports as requested by the supervisor.
  • Advocate for the needs of migrant children and families.
