About The Position

The Family Services Caseworker II position is a critical role within local departments of social services, focusing on providing direct support to individuals and families facing various challenges. This position operates at the full performance level, meaning that the caseworker is expected to handle a wide range of responsibilities independently, without supervisory duties over other staff. The primary goal of this role is to enhance the social, health, economic, behavioral, and emotional functioning of clients, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and support to improve their situations. In this role, the caseworker will engage with clients in diverse settings, including their homes, schools, hospitals, and other community locations. The work environment can be unpredictable, as caseworkers may encounter potentially hazardous situations while assisting clients. General supervision is provided by a Licensed Social Worker, but the caseworker is expected to take initiative in their duties, which may include working evenings, weekends, and providing on-call coverage as needed. The caseworker will be responsible for interviewing clients to gather essential information for determining eligibility for social services. They will assess individual case situations and make recommendations for personalized service plans. Additionally, the caseworker will provide limited counseling and crisis intervention services, helping clients navigate personal, economic, and social challenges. Establishing and maintaining relationships with other social service agencies and community resources is vital for facilitating referrals and ensuring comprehensive support for clients. Documentation is a key aspect of this role, as the caseworker will prepare and manage case records and reports detailing the information gathered and services provided. They may also be required to testify in legal proceedings related to family service cases, which underscores the importance of maintaining accurate and thorough records. Continuous professional development is encouraged, with the caseworker expected to develop and implement a training plan to enhance their skills and knowledge in delivering effective direct services. In certain situations, the caseworker may also participate in investigations of suspected abuse or neglect, making recommendations for the placement of children in foster or adoptive homes when necessary.
