About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide high quality medical services within the scope of family medicine which encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system and every disease entity. Responsible for the provision of comprehensive primary and preventive health care services to patients in a primary medical care ambulatory clinic or telehealth setting (in collaboration with a physician if applicable).

Requirements

  • Minimum of Five years' experience required in NP or PA role, preferably within ambulatory care or internal medicine setting.
  • Obtain and possess licensure in the State of Alaska as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant and unrestricted DEA certification, meet minimum CME requirements as per licensing board on a yearly basis and maintain CPR/BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with diverse populations of all ages, including patients experiencing homelessness or who are HIV positive, is preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills that demonstrate compassion and the ability to effectively communicate and treat diverse cultures and people.

Responsibilities

  • Makes initial assessment and diagnosis of the patient's health status; performs physical examination.
  • Obtains appropriate diagnostic tests and x-rays; interprets findings; provides routine medical care and treatment.
  • Prescribes medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations.
  • Provides general health education regarding matters such as proper diet, family planning, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
  • Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs and counsels patients, and records progress.
  • Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians concerning appropriate treatment.
  • Refers patients to other provider or care staff within the Center or for referral to outside specialists for consultative services as may be required for the patient's well-being.
  • Works a regularly planned clinic schedule and maintains a level of productivity in keeping with Medicare and other guidelines while maintaining the highest quality of care for the patients.
  • As an employee of a federally qualified health center, sees all scheduled patients regardless of race, ethnicity, social or economic designation and will demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and needs.
  • Responsible for accurate, timely, and complete documentation in patient records.
  • Keeps customer service and the mission of the organization in mind when interacting with all clients, co-workers, and others.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as immunizations, injections, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
  • Assists physician, as required, for emergency treatment and more complex procedures.
