About The Position

ABCD Family Planning (FP) is a program of Action for Boston Community Development, a citywide anti-poverty program established in 1962. ABCD FP provides comprehensive family planning services and prevention education and counseling through a network of clinical sites based in the neighborhood health centers and other primary care sites throughout Boston. ABCD FP also offers community education and a professional training institute in the areas of reproductive health and sexuality. The Family Planning Training Institute Specialist ensures all education component activities are in accordance with federal, state and program laws, regulations, standards and policies. The position oversees the development and implementation of the Training Institute. The primary emphasis on developing, delivering, and evaluating research-based trainings for Family Planning (FP) counselors and clinical staff at the ABCD Family Planning service delivery sites. The Training Institute also serves as the state-wide family planning program. The Training Institute Specialist oversees any consultants, interns and volunteers serving the Training Institute.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education, or related field, and 3-5 years of experience providing clinic and community based sexual and reproductive health education and training.
  • Environment with some experience as a manager required
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, and ability to pay close attention to all details.
  • Ability to work independently while committed to a team effort to achieve overall goals of the program.
  • Excellent knowledge of family planning, sexual and reproductive health and prevention.
  • Experience facilitating group trainings.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Window Applications, including Access and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute successful training programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains calendar of core courses, identifies and develops new initiatives that enhance performance, productivity, and quality of family planning services.
  • Provides ongoing service delivery to site family planning counselor and clinical staff needs assessment; plan overall or individualized trainings that address training needs and expectations, funder guidelines and initiatives, and input from the ABCD Family Planning Quality Assurance program.
  • Familiarity with multiple training modalities in order to meet the needs of diverse learners (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.)
  • Maintains a keen understanding of training trends, developments and best practices in areas of sexuality, reproductive health, contraception, STD/HIV/AIDS prevention and related preventive health issues.
  • Oversees certification of family planning counselors, monitors ongoing certification, continuing education activities and need assessment; maintains communication with counselors and their supervisors, and develops corrective action plans as needed.
  • Monitors and provides individual on-site session observation, and provides support. In conjunction with Clinical Quality Assurance Coordinator develops corrective action plans as needed.
  • Maintains and manages the training institute webpage and calendar, webpage, training database and statistical information for multiple reporting purposes, including the mailing lists, registration and training attendance data, counselor certification and continuing education, site visits, and program evaluation.
  • Monitors and evaluates core course effectiveness, and develop and adapt training to integrate family planning counseling into the roles of multiple delivery site staff.
  • Assists in updating applications for nursing, monitor databases and report professional continuing education activities to certifying agencies.
  • Develops and implements evidence-based and evidence-informed curricula for trainings.
  • Develops and manages training institute consultant contracts.
  • Coordinates staff, consultants, interns or volunteers serving the Training Institute.
  • Participates in writing grants, reports, and development of programmatic plans.
  • Monitors requests for models and materials and ordering and shipping out these resources.
  • Represent ABCD Family Planning at program and community partner meetings and events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
