About The Position

AMHC is looking for a full time Family Peer Support Specialist candidate, that will be a vital member of the Children’s Behavioral Health Home team. You will provide compassionate, peer-based support to families and caregivers of children and youth experiencing behavioral health challenges. Drawing on lived experience, this role helps families navigate complex systems, access resources, build advocacy skills, and feel empowered throughout the recovery journey.

Requirements

  • This position requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Applicant must have a minimum of 3 years of lived experience in parenting or in a parenting role (meaning biological parent, caregiver, foster parent, or grandparent) with at least one child/youth who lived with the applicant for 3 or more years who is receiving or has received services and support related to the diagnosis of a mental illness, and who is willing to self-identify

Responsibilities

  • Provide non-judgmental, empathetic emotional support grounded in lived experience
  • Openly share personal recovery experiences to instill hope and understanding
  • Support families in coping with stress, crisis, and uncertainty
  • Promote respect for each family’s unique recovery path
  • Offer practical strategies for self-care, stress management, and mental well-being
  • Advocate for family needs within healthcare, school, and community systems
  • Assist families in identifying unmet needs and accessing services
  • Educate families and the community on recovery principles and stigma reduction
  • Promote family involvement in treatment planning and decision-making
  • Participate in and organize trainings, workshops, and agency in-services
  • Provide information and referrals for mental health and substance use services
  • Assist families with problem-solving barriers to care (appointments, transportation, follow-through)
  • Maintain ongoing assessment of recovery needs and resource gaps
  • Connect families to community supports to increase independence and stability
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation in compliance with agency and funding requirements
  • Collaborate with clinicians, case managers, social workers, and other team members
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and trainings
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and agency information
  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all individuals
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate cultural humility when working with diverse populations
  • Be flexible to meet client and agency needs, including occasional overtime
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use standard office equipment
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds
  • Work occurs in office, community, and family settings and requires travel within assigned catchment areas
