The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a part-time Family Peer Specialist (FP) to join the Pediatric Anxiety Treatment Center at Hall Mercer (PATCH). This hybrid position is designed for individuals who have lived experience related to parenting a child with anxiety or related disorders. The FP will play a crucial role in providing support to families who are either seeking or currently receiving services for their children at PATCH. The primary goal of the FP is to empower families, helping them navigate the complexities of behavioral health services while drawing from their own experiences to foster understanding and connection. In this role, the FP will engage with parents and caregivers through one-on-one consultations or group sessions, offering insights and guidance based on their personal journey. The FP will work collaboratively with the PATCH administrative team, advocating for families and ensuring they have access to necessary resources. Regular meetings with PATCH staff will provide the FP with supervision and support, ensuring they are well-equipped to assist families effectively. The target population for this position includes families dealing with children who have anxiety disorders, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, trichotillomania, and tic disorders. The FP will be expected to complete necessary background checks, including PA state criminal, FBI, and child abuse clearances, to ensure the safety and well-being of the children and families served. Training in Family Peer best practices will be provided upon hire, although prior knowledge of behavioral health resources is highly recommended. The FP must be able to work independently, possess strong organizational skills, and demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting. This position may require travel to various Penn Medicine clinics and community outreach events, as well as the ability to work remotely when necessary.
