About The Position

Family Peer Advocates assist families to set priorities and goals, provide information, and help families navigate multiple complex service systems. Family Peer Advocates support families to strengthen their connections to community resources and connect with natural supports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Required.
  • Credentialed Family Peer Advocate (FPA-C).
  • Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges, or as someone who has navigated child-serving systems.
  • Proficiency in using computers and relevant software.
  • Ability to travel to different locations to meet with families.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Skills (Preferred): Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish or other languages spoken in the community.
  • Experience working in a behavioral health or social services setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and person-centered recovery models

Responsibilities

  • Offer emotional and practical support to families, sharing personal experiences and insights gained from navigating similar situations.
  • Represent the needs and rights of families within service systems, advocating for access to resources and appropriate services.
  • Help families understand their rights, access available resources, and navigate complex systems.
  • Support families in setting goals, building strengths, and achieving their desired outcomes.
  • Link families with relevant community resources, support groups, and other services.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of services for families, based on their lived experiences.
  • Work effectively with other professionals, such as social workers, therapists, and case managers, to ensure comprehensive support for families.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality standards when working with families.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
