About The Position

San Marcos Treatment Center, a 212-bed, seclusion free, psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio in the heart of Central Texas was founded in 1940 by Bert and Lorine Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved to Austin in 1933 during the depression, arriving by train with two little boys, two ragged suitcases and sixty cents. They established one of the first rest homes in Austin. This was a home for impaired patients. Today the facility spreads across 65-acres with an abundance of trees and wildlife, 13 unique living units separated by gender, age and development levels with two swimming pools, two gymnasiums, sports court, playing fields, Ropes Course, Canteen, social area and a Healing Trail. For more information about San Marcos Treatment Center, please visit our website at www.sanmarcostc.com This position is for a Part-time Family Nurse Practitioner who will work weekly Thursday & Friday onsite with an additional 2 weekends a month on site. The Family Nurse Practioner Will provide primary care services to adolescent residents of the facility in consultation with attending MDs and under the supervision of the Executive Medical Director. Obtains medical history, conducts physical examination on admission and updates history and physicals annually and monitors immunization status of residents and assures compliance with TDH standards. Provides patient education and assists in training at facility. Communicates information about residents’ health to other departments and provides documentation on all residents seen. Supervises the Clinic area. Collaborates with unit treatment teams and facility committees as assigned. Assists attending MDs. Performs evaluations on residents who have been physically held.

Requirements

  • Education: Masters Degree in Nursing and National Certification by the ANCC as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Practice or Adolescent Medicine. Requires current licensure by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Practice or Adolescent Medicine.
  • Skills: Requires leadership and organization skills.
  • Displays good verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrates effective organization, development, and implementation of medical management within the facility.
  • Demonstrates broad-based knowledge of illnesses/disorders/injuries affecting adolescent and young adults and skills to treat.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO and CHAMPUS standards as they relate to health care in a residential treatment setting.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Must consistently exhibit physical and mental ability to perform the essential function of the job.
