About The Position

San Marcos Treatment Center, a 212-bed, seclusion free, psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio in the heart of Central Texas was founded in 1940 by Bert and Lorine Brown. This position is for a Part-time Family Nurse Practitioner who will work weekly Thursday & Friday onsite with an additional 2 weekends a month on site. The Family Nurse Practitioner will provide primary care services to adolescent residents of the facility in consultation with attending MDs and under the supervision of the Executive Medical Director. Obtains medical history, conducts physical examination on admission and updates history and physicals annually and monitors immunization status of residents and assures compliance with TDH standards. Provides patient education and assists in training at facility. Communicates information about residents’ health to other departments and provides documentation on all residents seen. Supervises the Clinic area. Collaborates with unit treatment teams and facility committees as assigned. Assists attending MDs. Performs evaluations on residents who have been physically held.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by the ANCC as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Practice or Adolescent Medicine.
  • Current licensure by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Practice or Adolescent Medicine.
  • Leadership and organization skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Broad-based knowledge of illnesses/disorders/injuries affecting adolescents and young adults.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO and CHAMPUS standards as they relate to health care in a residential treatment setting.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Physical and mental ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
