Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • RN License with the Maryland Board of Nursing
  • BLS CPR certification
  • At least 2 years of current clinical experience in the perioperative setting.

Responsibilities

  • The family liaison independently provides family care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation from admission through transfer or discharge.
  • The Registered Nurse works with the interdisciplinary team to provide evidence-based, high quality family/patient care and safety.
  • The role is responsible for facilitating smooth and accurate flow of information to patients/family members from the Pre op area, PACU and Operating Room, surgeons, while maintaining confidentiality and privacy for all patients.
  • Also serves as a patient/family advocate, using mediator approach whenever possible.
  • Responsible to promote comfort and satisfaction among patients and families.
