About The Position

Under supervision of the Family Services Supervisor, the Family Navigator is a victim service provider who works as part of a collaborative team between the two main functions of the Triad Home Safe Program's Crisis Service Team and Care Coordination Team. The individual in the is role is responsible for engaging and supporting caregivers/families of child sex trafficking survivors with planning, accessing, and coordinating services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field and a minimum of one (1) year of full-time paid work experience working with children in youth-service agencies providing social services to minors and their families such as the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), Harris County Resource Services for Children and Adults (HCRCA), The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (THC-MH-IDD) or a Juvenile Probation Department.
  • Associate's degree in a directly related field and three (3) years of full-time paid work experience working with children in youth-service agencies providing social services to minors and their families such as the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), Harris County Resource Services for Children and Adults (HCRCA), The Harris Center for Mental Health and DD (THC-MH-IDD) or a Juvenile Probation Department.
  • High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years of full-time paid work experience working with children in youth-service agencies providing social services to minors and their families such as the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), Harris County Resource Services for children and Adults (HCRCA), The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (THC-MH-IDD) or a Juvenile Probation Department.
  • Training and experience using a personal computer with a variety of software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Case Management Software.
  • Reliable transportation with a valid driver's license (Texas) and auto liability insurance.
  • Successfully complete the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) training assessments within six months of employment and maintain yearly certifications thereafter.
  • Successfully complete the Child Sexual Exploitation Identification Tool (CSE-IT) and Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) training within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Visits with the youth's family/guardian in their homes and/or community to provide emotional support, supportive services, and basic emergency needs. Also acts as a liaison for caregivers and family members of sex trafficking survivors (ages 10-19) through the Home Safe Program.
  • Respond to calls from the TRIAD Hot line and immediately travels to the on-call location (Hospital or secure scene) to assist Sex Trafficking Victims' family caregivers and first responders within 90 minutes.
  • Builds rapport and maintains engagement with the caregivers after the initial crisis by connecting them with resources such as parenting classes, drug/alcohol/mental health treatment, counseling and therapy services, support groups, legal services, family counseling, transitional housing options, and job skills training.
  • Works collaboratively with the TRIAD Team to participate in Rapid Response Team (RRT) meetings and Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) which develops short-term placement plans and make recommendations to community partners for continuity of care.
  • Assists survivor advocates and law enforcement in identifying immediate placement options for victims. Also collaborates on crisis response coordination with the Crisis Specialist, Medical team, Juvenile Probation staff, DFPS staff, officers, and the survivor advocate.
  • Participates in foundational training during the initial year and subsequently engages in 15 hours of training covering crisis intervention, compassion fatigue, motivational interviewing, and child sex trafficking.
  • Actively participates in both individual and group supervision sessions.
